Sternal Metastasis from Prostate Cancer
[...]. Sternal Metastasis from Prostate Cancer. CTICases. Published February 1, 2017. https://str-case-explorer.pages.dev/c/7hjv8
Imaging findings
Chest radiograph shows diffuse blastic lesions throughout the axial skeleton and an abnormal double contour along the right mediastinal border on the frontal view. On the lateral view, there is a large, lobulated soft tissue mass projecting backward into the retrosternal clear space. CT confirms a large, osteoblastic sternal metastasis with significant posterior soft tissue extension.
Key takeaways
Metastatic prostate cancer commonly presents with diffuse osteoblastic skeletal metastases. Sternal lesions can extend posteriorly into the anterior mediastinum, mimicking an anterior mediastinal mass on chest radiographs and causing abnormal interfaces on the frontal view.
