Proximal Interruption of Pulmonary Artery
[...]. Proximal Interruption of Pulmonary Artery. CTICases. Published May 4, 2019. https://str-case-explorer.pages.dev/c/f85qc
Imaging findings
Chest CT shows complete absence of the right pulmonary artery (proximal interruption) with right lung hypoplasia and peripheral cysts. Extensive systemic transpleural collateral vessels are present. An incidental cardiac bronchus and tracheal diverticulum are also noted. The patient presented with pure red cell aplasia.
Key takeaways
Proximal interruption of a pulmonary artery is a congenital anomaly where the affected lung is supplied by transpleural systemic collaterals, which can lead to peripheral cystic changes/infarction over time. It can be associated with other congenital tracheobronchial anomalies.
